Faces of Skedulo: Nicole Chun Tie
People are the heart of Skedulo, and success—for us, our team and our customers—is a collaborative effort. We are proud of our team’s achievements and celebrate them every month with our Skedgend Awards. A Skedgend is a teammate who has been nominated by their peers for consistently demonstrating excellence in our values:
Nicole Chun Tie, Accounting Manager, based in Brisbane | Skedgend Award Winner, October 2021
How long have you been with Skedulo?
I’ve been with Skedulo for almost 2 years now.
Why did you choose to work with Skedulo?
I actually used to work for Skedulo’s accounting firm. One day I came in for a client meeting, and I guess you could say Mitch showed me the office and gave me a free t-shirt and I was sold!
I think it was just the right time in my career to move from professional services into industry, and Skedulo was a really exciting opportunity in terms of the lifecycle and the product. I also really enjoyed the people who I’d already met, so it was something I couldn’t turn down.
What’s your favorite thing about your role with Skedulo?
It’s definitely the people I get to work with. Everyone is so welcoming, genuine, really driven, and always willing to help out.
How did winning the Skedgend Award make you feel?
It was a lovely feeling and quite surprising. It came at a really important time because it was a period of high stress and long hours, and it was really nice to be recognised for that.
But I feel like I was just doing my job, like everyone does at Skedulo – just chugging along, and I couldn’t have done it without all the people around me.
There are a few people who have become like mentors and helped me grow professionally and personally, and I’m really thankful for that.
Have you ever nominated someone for the Skedgend Award and why?
I have nominated people. I think it’s an important recognition tool, and they’re people who have really helped out in my role which I think deserves to be recognised.
What’s been the biggest surprise about working at Skedulo?
How easy it is to work with people overseas. I haven’t actually met a lot of the people I work with on a daily basis, but it’s been so easy to communicate and I feel supported every day in my role. So not being able to travel hasn’t actually affected my ability to connect with people across the world.
What are you most excited about for the future?
Hopefully travelling next year. I’d love to see the San Francisco office and go to Vietnam too if that’s on the cards. Fingers crossed!
How does being at Skedulo allow you to be your best self?
I think everyone is just so accepting. I’m not trying to be something I’m not, and it’s a really fun place to work and very family-oriented.
It’s just pure acceptance, and so I can be me…which is this!
What’s your favourite food?
Probably the wedges we used to get for Friday Foods. I do not shut up about them!
What’s a fact about you that nobody else knows?
If I wasn’t an accountant, I’d be a professional dancer. I’m on a YouTube video with like 40 million hits!
